Orca (Killer Whales)

Alert Bay and the Telegraph Cove area are located within the Northern Resident orca and Bigg’s (Transient) killer whale critical habitat making this one of the best places in the world to view these animals. In summer and fall Northern Resident orca come here to feed on salmon, socialize, and rub their bodies on the smooth pebble beaches of nearby Robson Bight Ecological Reserve. Bigg’s killer whales are regularly found traveling through the area in search of prey such as porpoises, seals, dolphins, and sea lions.
