Amazing sightings in Weynton Passage and Queen Charlotte Strait

We enjoyed a really beautiful day beginning with the sighting of a Minke Whale in Pearse Passage and while viewing Harbour Seals and Bald Eagles in one of the waterways of the Pearse Islands we were surprised to also find a small group of some 6-8 Pacific White-sided Dolphins and observed them swimming by us, their small blows visible against a rocky shoreline. It was a gentle and intimate moment, seeing them in this manner, and we watched with intrigue while they quietly and unobtrusively swam by several hauled out Harbour Seals including pups who were not in the least bit disturbed by their presence. We sighted two Humpback Whales in Weynton Passage, and as we drew closer,  we could see that one had entered Johnstone Strait, while the other was near to and parallel Stubbs Island and it was this one that we made our way towards. En route we came upon a group of Stellar Sea-lions, they had been resting in shallow waters, one we observed with a flipper held high on which we could see a small open wound and as we went by, the entire group began swimming parallel to us before turning back. The Humpback Whale surfaced suddenly nearby and we enjoyed watching its dive sequence, meanwhile another was sighted down in Blackfish Sound near Flower Island and two more off Bold Head. It was in the direction of Bold Head that we made our way over to and  enjoyed some wonderful viewing with several surprise sightings of them at the bow of the boat. The two whales appeared to be working the area together and some bubble netting feeding behaviour was also observed. On the way home, and in the midst of serving our Devonshire Tea,  another humpback whale was sighted!  Some exquisite 'wildlife moments' were glimpsed today, making it a very special day on which a birthday onboard was also celebrated. Also seen: Dall's Porpoises, Black Oyster Catchers, Common Murres, Rhinoceros Auklets, Pigeon Guillemots, Bald Eagles and two Eaglets high in branches that embraced their nest, Red-necked Phalaropes, Turnstones, Herring, Glaucous-winged and California Gulls. As we neared Cormorant Island on our way home, we were able to glimpse the last of the kayakers as they made their way to the finish line of the yearly 360 Kayak Race around Cormorant Island.
