Five species of Cetaceans ~ a beautiful day!
August 9, 2014 It was another glorious day on the North Island with sunshine and calm seas and numerous cetacean sightings beginning with a minke whale sighting early on in our tour. The I15's + others took us on a beautiful journey to mainland BC and near the entrance to Fife Sound and the Holford Islets, there they were, all spread out, resting and foraging. It was surreal to be drifting quietly with our engine off hearing their blows and listening to their beautiful G-Clan calls as they made their way in the stillness of the day! We enjoyed dall's porpoises bow-riding briefly as well as seeing harbour porpoises feeding and a humpback whale in Weynton Passage. Also seen: common murres, rhinoceros auklets, bald eagles, fork-tailed storm petrels, marbled murrelets and gull species.
Today's penned comments: "Beautiful day. Sunshine, calm waters, great captain and ships mate. We saw 5 species of cetaceans: minke whales, humpbacks, harbour and dall's porpoises and killer whales. Great muffins as well! A superb souvenir. Thanks so much!" ~ Bas and Sarah, Netherlands
"Just perfect!!" ~ Angie and Bob, Ontario
