A magnificent sunset in the Bay while two Humpback Whales passed on through!

A beautiful setting of the sun we enjoyed over a period of several magical minutes this evening, made even more wonderful when the blows of two humpback whales were seen with them surfacing suddenly in the midst of the glorious coloured hues of orange and mauve that permeated the waters directly across from Alert Bay at the mouth of the Nimpkish River. As we watched the whales they continued travelling slowly west, they were travelling in a relaxed manner and while we did not see them fluke, the sound of their blows we did hear in the stillness of the evening.  We have also received news that some 7-9 orcas were seen travelling past the Nimpkish River earlier this evening around 5.00 p.m., an hour ahead of the humpback whales who we had observed at 6.00 p.m. and going east in the opposite direction.
