Humpback Whale ~ Galaxy was sighted on our first tour of the season ~ it was a beautiful day on the water.

On our first tour of the season we encountered our first sighting of a humpback whale! Thanks to Christie and Jackie www.mersociety.org from our photo's they identified it as Galaxy who was first sighted in our area in 2011and today it was only the second sighting of Galaxy reported for the season. Taking 5 minute dives with six breaths between dives, we observed as the whale foraged quietly in Blackfish Sound in the flooding current. One of the photo's posted shows the whale to be very thin which is typical following winter where they rarely feed in their wintering areas. Humpback Whales arriving into our area in spring and summer feed intensively in the cool nutrient waters to bulk up for the winter months ahead of them. There were numerous sightings of bald eagles both juvenile and mature, at one point some 30 + eagles were seen sitting among trees close along the shoreline. The pair of Canada Geese was a treat to see as we headed for home! IMG_0804 IMG_0795 IMG_0791 IMG_0789 IMG_0775 IMG_0756 IMG_0745 IMG_0736 IMG_0742
