The joy of sailing with whales!
What a beautiful day it was and with a brisk North West wind blowing, it made sailing possible and we enjoyed our time immensely whilst tacking back and forth in Blackney Passage with two humpback whales, Ripple and Guardian. Earlier on in the tour on our way east in Blackfish Sound we had caught sight of another humpback whale and believe that this might have been White Eyes who was heading west at the time and who was later reported being in Weynton Passage and we passed this whale headed back east in Johnstone Strait on our way back home in the Strait. We will never know for sure but the possibility is great that it was one and the same humpback whale circuiting around Hanson and Plumper Islands! Our time in Blackney Passage was wonderful with the two whales coming together at one point and where numerous rhinoceros auklets and some common murres had gathered, the current was flooding and the NW wind began gathering momentum as we tacked back and forth and when one of the humpbacks surprised us surfacing nearby, it was a thrill for everyone onboard! Also seen: stellar sea lions, dalls porpoises, harbour seals, bald eagles and gull species.
