A day of breathtaking beauty, of Orcas and of feasting Humpback Whales!
What a beautiful day it was to be touring out on the water where the clearing fog revealed some spectacular sights of natural beauty and the magnificence of the marine mammals and seabirds who inhabit this area in the summer months. What a joy it was to see orcas breaking through the fog in Johnstone Strait this morning! They were the Resident Orcas, C10's who arrived into the area yesterday and who were still around today, the viewing of them was superb! We heard their beautiful vocalizations as they foraged nearby via the hydrophone and they were absolutely stunning to listen to. The two humpback whales were equally as wonderful to watch along with all of the rhinoceros auklets, the common murres and gull species, all gathered to feast on the herring that swam beneath the waters. The feasting was mesmerizing and the energy was explosive as the birds and whales fed alongside. Touring through the islands, vivid in colour today, forests both above and below the water, sparkled in the sunlight! Also seen today: dall's porpoise, harbour seals, red-necked phalaropes, and bald eagles. Today's penned comments: " A really great and exciting tour! We saw the orcas and humpback whales and eagles and porpoise and enjoyed the muffins and scones very much. Thank you!" Sigi & Matthias, Germany.
