A fantastic day of viewing Orcas: the A30s and A42s, Dolphins and Humpback Whales!

 

Today's Sightings: Northern Resident Orcas, Humpback Whales, Three River Otters, Dall's Porpoises, Pacific White-sided Dolphins, Harbour Seals, Rhinoceros and Cassin's Auklets, Red-necked Phalaropes,  Bald Eagles, Belted Kingfishers, Pigeon Guillemots, Black Turnstones and Gull species.

It was an amazing day that everyone enjoyed on both of our tours. It began this morning in Alder Bay with some wonderful viewing of young River Otters who were relaxed and lying out on the dock oblivious to people walking back and forth.

We encountered the A42s who had met up with the incoming A30 Matriline and they were all resting for a long while off Donegal Head and staying in the same place for several hours where we observed their mostly resting behaviour and multiple spyhopping. There were also three Humpback Whales foraging nearby and we watched, mesmerized by the magic of their diving and surfacing sequence!

On the afternoon tour we travelled very slowly through Weynton Passage and on down Johnstone Strait with the A30s and A42s who were travelling very slowly in the current. It was an incredible afternoon as there were several hundred Pacific White-sided Dolphins racing very quickly past us to the west!

Our time in amongst quiet waterways observing eagles, seals and other bird species added greatly to the beauty of our tours.
