An amazing mix of beauty including Orcas and Humpback whales!
July 10th
It was another sun-filled, wildlife-packed day of tours, bringing excitement and joy to all of our guests.
The A23’s was the Orca family group that were sighted today, thrilling our guests who had travelled from afar to experience whales in the wild. Humpback whales and Orca’s foraged while Pacific White-sided dolphins and Dall’s porpoise fed amongst the flurry of bird activity.
At one stage a large male Steller Sea lion was sighted. He poised handsomely on a rock, with his muscular chest jutted out and head held high as though posing for our visitors. Immature Bald Eagles were abundant, along with many Harbour seal pups that lounged on the shoreline, basking in the summer sun.
By mid-afternoon, the orcas who had been foraging and travelling in their family groups had made their way deep inside the Robson Bight Ecological Reserve. Since this is a sanctuary for the whales where no boats can enter, briefly we observed them from afar, imagining the scenes of them massaging their bodies on the smooth pebbles that line these shores.
It was fantastic to be out on the water viewing not only Orcas and Humpback whales but also those less talked about species such as Stellar sea lions and Red-necked Phalaropes with each species adding variation, colour and wonder to our tours. At one point today, our passengers were spellbound watching not only orcas but also a Humpback whale at the same time as one of our photo’s show orcas in the background of the Humpback whale!
It was a remarkable day bringing smiles and joy to our well-travelled visitors.
